PHotographers guide: Shooting at Studio Warehouse
Thank you for booking your session at Studio Warehouse. This guide has been created specifically for photographers and larger bookings to help you feel completely prepared before arrival. If you have any questions after reading through, you are always welcome to call Charlotte, the owner.
Plan Your Shoot
To get a feel for our furniture and styling options, browse our Instagram highlights and Reels — this is where we keep everything up to date.
Arrival
We do our best to meet you onsite to walk you through the space and show you where things are kept. If we cannot be there in person, the person who made the booking will receive a text and email with the access code before your booking begins.
Accessibility
The Ground is wheelchair accessible via the front door or roller door. The toilet is disability-friendly. The Mez is only accessible by stairs.
Front Door
Please open the front door with caution as it can swing open and slam into our neighbour’s door.
When arriving and leaving, you are welcome to use two shot bags to hold the door open. Please place one in front and one behind the door to prevent it from hitting our neighbours. We keep two 5kg bags at the door for this.
Unloading and Parking
Studio Warehouse is easy to find and has simple access for unloading.
The garage under Unit 39 is perfect for heavy gear or clothing racks as it opens directly into The Ground.
Please do not drive your car into the studio, as tyres leave oil marks on the garage floor paint.
There are three car parks at the front door. The two left parks belong to us, and the one on the right belongs to our neighbour. '
There is plenty of additional free all-day visitor parking near the grass inside the estate, directly across from the front door.
Steamer and Racks
We have one black clothing rack and one large garment steamer.
Natural Light
The studio has two long skylights that offer beautiful, consistent natural light throughout the day. The Ground is brightest from late morning to early afternoon and becomes warm and golden when the garage door is open in the late afternoon.
The Mez receives slightly stronger natural light as it is closer to the skylights.
Clouds will naturally affect lighting tone, so plan accordingly if you need consistency for photography or videography.
Sound and Weather Conditions
If you are planning to use microphones for videography, please be aware that the tin roof can be loud during rain or high winds.
The garage door can also make noise during strong winds.
Natural Light E-Commerce Photography
For e-commerce photography, the three-tier paper system under The Mez (on The Ground) is designed to block all ambient light using the block-out curtains and portable wall, creating a dark “cave” for consistent product shots on paper backgrounds.
Heating and Cooling
Only the office spaces have heating and cooling, which is ideal for hair and makeup.
In summer, The Ground responds quickly and maintains an even temperature, while The Mez can feel slightly warmer due to ceiling height and soft furnishings.
In winter, The Ground can feel cooler due to the large open space. We have two portable heaters that can be kept close to models, but heating the entire warehouse is not possible, so please dress warmly and bring a robe for the model if needed. The Mez has a slightly warmer feel but can also have a heater taken upstairs.
When using the heaters, they must be completely unplugged when you leave so we can confirm via CCTV that they are off.
Hair and Makeup
We have high stools and a director’s chair.
Hair and makeup is usually done in the natural light near the garage or in the front office. The front office has tinted windows, so you are welcome to keep the door open for more light, or ask your MUA to bring panel lights on cloudy days.
Furniture and Layout
The studio does not have a fixed setup, so you are welcome to move furniture within your booked level. At the end of your hire, everything must be left clean and returned to its original position so the next booking can start on time. If you book The Whole Studio, you have full access to all furniture across both levels.
When using The Mez, please put back all props on the shelves.
Power Access and Tethering
The Ground has eight powerpoints positioned on two of the beams, total of 16 powerpoints. Since these are centred in the studio, extension cords may be needed depending on where you are shooting. You may also want to use the kitchen powerpoint when shooting near the garage.
Extension cords and power boards are supplied in the third drawer in the kitchen.
The Mez does not currently have dedicated powerpoints. You can run an extension cord over the balcony and use a powerboard.
Backdrops and Walls
Around the studio we have various cut-off materials such as chipboard and plasterboard in different shapes and sizes. These can be used as features, flooring, or to help create shadows.
When using the paints wall, please treat these as cyclorama with no dirty shoes.
